For over 2 decades I have been moving band t-shirts from apartment to apartment, and now to the basement of my house. I’ve said for years that I want to make a punk rock quilt out of them. What’s more punk than a quilt? I don’t know how to quilt, so until I learn I will be posting pix of these vintage gems and remembering when. I will call this series T-Shirt Tuesday.

I seem to remember seeing Quicksand a bunch, but I do have one specific memory of a show. I think it was the first time I saw them. It was Quicksand, 7-Seconds and I’m pretty sure the Bouncing Souls opened up. Me and some friends from high school drove up to Babyhead, primarily to see 7-Seconds. We all had the Quicksand 7 inch because it was “Walter from Gorilla Biscuits new band.”
We got to the door and the bouncer asked for ID, that was strange for a hardcore show. He told us the show was 18 +. We were all bummed out and wandering around Richmond St asking each other "when the club started 18 and over shows?" That’s when Kevin Seconds came out and let us all know 7 seconds would not play until we were all inside. The guys from Quicksand followed saying the same thing. A very cool moment for a 16 year old me.
Before the club worked it out with the bands, 7 seconds started asking us if there was a basement they could move the show to. I remember my friend Derek offering up his parents basement.
It never came to that, the club worked it out with the bands and all the under 18 kids piled in. It was a pretty magical night. 7 seconds was touring with Soulforce Revolution. When they played “tickets to a better place”, Kevin Seconds asked “does anyone want to buy tickets to a better place?” I was up front and yelled “are the tickets 18 plus?” I think he laughed. I thought I was the most clever kid in the club at that moment.
I really hope I’m remembering that correctly. For the record, it could have been someone else that said that and all these years later I’ve retold the story enough in my had that I’ve convinced myself it was me.
